Yucca Mountain is a dangerous location for anything like a
nuclear waste site:
In an appearance before the State
Senate Finance Committee late last month, Attorney General Brian
Sandoval predicted that the toxic waste dump will never open. Sandoval
accurately described the Yucca Mountain site 90 miles northwest of Las
Vegas as "a volcano that sits on an earthquake fault above an aquifer,
next to the Nevada Test Site, next to one of the nation's largest
organic farms, next to the state's largest dairy, adjacent to ...
(America's) fastest-growing metropolitan area (and) next to one of the
busiest Air Force bases in the country."
"If you could choose a worse place to store nuclear waste, I really
challenge you to do so," he added. "It's just a matter of time before
this project fails." Well said, Mr. Attorney General.

"Paul Craig, a physicist and engineering professor at the
University of
California-Davis, said he quit the panel last month so he could speak
more freely about the waste dump's dangers."
"For Nevadans, this is one of the biggest whoppers yet. Bush
promised Nevadans that as president he would rely on “sound science” as
the determining factor for the operation of the Yucca Mountain
Repository. Once in the White House, the Bush Administration
unveiled their real intentions: to ship 77,000 tons of highly toxic
nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain, located less than 100 miles northwest
of Las Vegas."
"The nation's nuclear waste dump proposed for Nevada is poorly
designed
and could leak highly radioactive waste, a scientist who recently
resigned from a federal panel of experts on Yucca Mountain told The
Associated Press on Wednesday."
