Easy Senate Score Chart 2006

Best score in 2006: Russ Feingold

Best scores in 2005:

Key to Chart:  (range is +550 to -550).     Barbara Boxer had the highest score (+152.5).
Mark Dayton, Frank Lautenberg and Edward Kennedy tied for 2nd place (+132.5) .

This year everyone started over.
This year there will be two scores: a vote score and a human rights percentage.

IN 2006, RUSS FEINGOLD (+280, 73%)  OF WISCONSIN IS IN FIRST PLACE.  ALL OTHER SENATORS ARE BELOW 70%
COMPARE THIS WITH DENNIS KUCINICH'S 100% SCORE ON THE HOUSE CHART.
ANYONE WITH A SCORE BELOW 50% IS NO FRIEND OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

How the score is calculated:

Home Run (HRUN):  This Senator took a stand for the American people. +10 points

AWOL: This Senator was AWOL when the American people needed him/her to take a stand.  – 5 points. This does not apply to cloture votes.

NH: This stands for no harm.  Those who fail to vote against cloture don't have the courage of those who do take a stand but their votes counts with the "nay" votes in a cloture motion.  Therefore, unless a home run requires a vote for cloture on an issue, NH counts as 0.

STR for Strike: This Senator voted or agreed to an outcome harmful to the American people, freedom and/or democracy. -10 points

F: This stands for Fraud.  This applies to Senators who vote one way when it matters and another way when it makes no difference. An example is when they vote for cloture on a bill or nomination and then vote against the nomination in circumstances where the only chance to stop a bill or nominee was through a fillibuster.  In an election year, Senators like to argue meaningless votes and mislead their public into fogetting that they voted the other way when it mattered.  An F will be placed after the total of all Senators who do this on the chart that contains the vote wherein they pull this.  The Fs will also be counted on the final total of the final chart at the end of the year..

Total Score: The accumulated points to date on major votes/consents.

Human Rights Percentage or HR%: Current percentage of Senator from bottom to top of chart, rounded to the nearest whole number.

The vote descriptions link to the top of the chart, and each column header and footer links back to the description for that date.

Votes/Consents counted this page:
8/3/06C:   Roll Call 230 was the passage of HR4 the Pension Destruction Act.
9/5/06:  Roll Call 231 was the approval of right-wing, anti-human rights judge Kimberly Ann Moore to be a Circuit Judge.
9/7/06:  Roll Call 239 was provide more funding to continue the war in Iraq.
9/19/06: Roll Call 250 was the passage of the United States-Oman Cut Jobs for American Workers Trade Implementation Act.  This and similar bills perpetuate the use of child slave labor and  the undercutting of the environment while sending US jobs to forieign low-cost labor.
9/28/06: Roll Call 259 was the passage of S3920, the Military Commissions Act, throwing away the Constitutional rights of both American citizens and foreigners and allowing Amricans and others to be detained and tortured indefinitely.
9/29/06A: Roll Call 261 was the the agreement to the conference reporte for appropriations for war, HR 5631.
9/29/06B:  Roll Call 263 was the cloture vote on  S403, the Kill Teenaged Girls Act, designed to keep minors from leaving the state to exercise choice over their own bodies.  Cloture failed.
11/16/06:  Roll Call 270 was the passage of HR 5682, a bill to exempt the United States-India Nuclear Proliferation Act from requirements of the Atomeic Energy Act of 1954.
12/06/06:  Roll Call 272 was the vote to confirm pro-war Robert M. Gates to be Secretary of Defense.  A number of Senators just wanted Rumsfeld gone and were willing to approve anyone to replace him.  They are getting a strike because they should have been more picky about who would replace him.
12/07/06:  Roll Call 273 was cloture on  the confirmation of Andrew Von Eschenbach to be Commissioner of the FDA.  The problem with Eschenbach is that (like Crawford)  he favors lower standards for food, which will endanger the lives of millions of Americans.  Those who voted for cloture and against the confirmation got an F after their STR on this vote.
