Easy Senate Score Chart 2006
This year everyone started over.
This year there will be two scores: a vote score and a human rights percentage.

ANYONE WITH A SCORE BELOW 50% IS NO FRIEND OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

How the score is calculated:

Home Run (H Run):  This Senator took a stand for the American people. +10 points

AWOL: This Senator was AWOL when the American people needed him/her to take a stand.  – 5 points. This does not apply to cloture votes.

NH: This stands for no harm.  Those who fail to vote against cloture don't have the courage of those who do take a stand but their votes counts with the "nay" votes in a cloture motion.  Therefore, unless a home run requires a vote for cloture on an issue, NH counts as 0.

STR for Strike: This Senator voted or agreed to an outcome harmful to the American people, freedom and/or democracy. -10 points

F: This stands for Fraud.  This applies to Senators who vote one way when it matters and another way when it makes no difference. An example is when they vote for cloture on a bill or nomination and then vote against the nomination in circumstances where the only chance to stop a bill or nominee was through a fillibuster.  In an election year, Senators like to argue meaningless votes and mislead their public into fogetting that they voted the other way when it mattered.  An F will be placed after the total of all Senators who do this on the chart that contains the vote wherein they pull this.  The Fs will also be counted on the final total of the final chart at the end of the year.

Total Score: The accumulated points to date on major votes/consents.

Human Rights Percentage or HR%: Current percentage of Senator from bottom to top of chart, rounded to the nearest whole number.

The vote descriptions link to the top of the chart, and each column header and footer links back to the description for that date.

Votes/Consents counted this page:

5/11/06: This was the vote on the conference report on the Tax Relief for the Super Rich bill.
5/16/06A: This was the vote on the confirmation of Milan D. Smith to the 9th Circuit.  It is part of an effort to make the 9th Circuit unreceptive to human righs by stacking it with new anti-human rights nominees.
5/16/06B: This was the votet on S.Amdt. 3961 to S. 2611 to prohibit the granting of legal status, or adjustment of current status, to any individual who enters or entered the United States in violation of Federal law unless the border with the exception of a small number of immigrants.
5/18/06:  This was the vote on the racist amendment to to S 2611 that made English the national and "patriotic" language.
5/25/06A:  This was the passage of S 2611, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006.  It was not as bad as HR 4437 and therefore most extremists voted against it.  However, it still was not as good as no bill at all and therefore it counts as a strike.  Though the Democrats may have thought they were avoiding a worse bill in voting for a moderately bad bill, they had the power to stop all bills that made the treatment of immigrants worse than the status quo.
5/25/06B:  Roll call 158 was the vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of Brett M. Kavanaugh to be a justice on the D.C.Circuit, placing him in line for the Supreme Court.  The trouble is that he is another right-wing extremist who will undercut human rights on the cases he judges.
5/26/06A: Roll call 159 was the vote on the confirmation of Brett M.Kavanaugh, an opponent of human rights, to be a Judge on the D.C. Circuit
5/26/06B:  Roll Call 160 was the vote on Michael V. Hayden, a supporter of CIA torture camps, to be the Director of the CIA.
5/26/06C:  Roll Call 161 was the vote on the cloture motion to allow anti-environmentalist Dirk Kempthorne to be Secretary of the Interior, a move that could result in the extinction of species of lives and destroy the natural areas of the United States, resulting in more devasting climate change and a toxifying of America.
6/7/06: Roll Call 163 was the vote for cloture on the Marriage Amendment (SJRes 1), a bigoted Amendment to prohibit gays from marrying.
