Easy Senate Score Chart 2006
This year there will be two scores: a vote score and a human rights percentage.

RUSS FEINGOLD IS IN FIRST PLACE WITH +100 (100%) ON THE FIRST 10 HUMAN RIGHTS VOTES OF 2006.
ANYONE WITH A SCORE BELOW 50% IS NO FRIEND OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

How the score is calculated:

Home Run (H Run):  This Senator took a stand for the American people. +10 points

AWOL: This Senator was AWOL when the American people needed him/her to take a stand.  – 5 points. This does not apply to cloture votes.

NH: This stands for no harm.  Those who fail to vote against cloture don't have the courage of those who do take a stand but their votes counts with the "nay" votes in a cloture motion.  Therefore, unless a home run requires a vote for cloture on an issue, NH counts as 0.

STR for Strike: This Senator voted or agreed to an outcome harmful to the American people, freedom and/or democracy. -10 points

F: This stands for Fraud.  This applies to Senators who vote one way when it matters and another way when it makes no difference. In an election year, Senators like to argue meaningless votes and mislead their public into fogetting that they voted the other way when it mattered.  An F will be placed after the total of all Senators who do this on the chart that contains the vote wherein they pull this.  The Fs will also be counted on the final total of the final chart at the end of the year..

Total Score: The accumulated points to date on major votes/consents.

Human Rights Percentage or HR%: Current percentage of Senator from bottom to top of chart, rounded to the nearest whole number.

The vote descriptions link to the top of the chart, and each column header and footer links back to the description for that date.

Votes/Consents counted this page:

1/30/06:
This was the cloture vote on the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.  Samuel Alito has a history of supporting human rights abuses, such as the strip searching of 10 year old girls.  Alito also favors a dictatorship by the executive branch over the other branches of government.  This position is in opposition to the Constitution of the United States.  Only the cloture vote is being counted as, with the Democrats in a minority, it was clear at the time of the vote that failure to vote against cloture guaranteed Alito's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.  A number of Senators tried to pull a fraud over on their constituents.  After voting for cloture, they turned around and voted against the judge, though they knew that vote made no difference.  They appear to have done this so that they could later lie to their constituents and say that they opposed Alito.  Those who engaged in this fraud have an F for fraud after the strike.

2/2/06AThis was the Cut Taxes for the Rich and Let the Poor and Middle Classes Pay for Everything Reconciliation bill.

2/2/06B:  This was the vote to extend the USA PATRIOT's attack on the Constitution for five weeks to allow Congress time to kill our rights altogether.  This gave the opponents of freedom a new opportunity to continue the attack on Americans until a more objectionable version of the PATRIOT Act could be pushed through.

2/7/06: This was the cloture vote on Save Asbestos Companies from their Victims Act  (S852).   This Act which removes the right of jury trials for those choking and dying of asbestos injuries requires these victims to seek recovery from an under-funded fund.  This over twenty billion dollar bailout (that's over twenty billion dollars of the victims' money) for asbestos companies benefits Dow Chemical, Ford, General Electric, General Motors, Honeywell, Pfizer and Viacom.  It would be good to see if any of the Senators voting for the bill received campaign contributions from any of these companies for this bailout.  This is not scored as one week later, the Senate, in one of those unanimous consent agreements, undid the cloture vote and send the bill back to committee.  Here is a link to the vote.

2/14/06:  This was the voted to waive a cellling in the CBA to allow the government to implement  S852, the Save Asbestos Companies from their Victims Act.  This failed to get the required 60 votes. Therefore the 2/7 cloture vote was taken back by a unanimous consent agreement and S852 was sent back to committee.

2/16/06"USA PATRIOT Act Additional Reauthorizing Amendments Act of 2006"   This was the first cloture vote on USA-PATRIOT.  The USA PATRIOT Act still contains the most objectionable provisions from 2001 and a new provision which seriously violates the rights and endangered the health of cold, allergy and flu sufferers. This vote brings the Patriot Act dangerously close to passage while misleading the public.  The government can still get your library records and do all the other really bad stuff that was in the original Patriot Act.   This allowed the next item to come to the floor.  By voting for cloture, they took it one step closer to passage.

2/28/06::  This was cloture motion on S2271, the USA PATRIOT Act Additional Amendments Act of 2006.  This was a cloture motion to allow this to go to a final vote.

3/1/06A This was the vote to actually pass S2271, the USA PATARIOT Act. Reauthorizing Amendments Act of 2006.  This  worked to make USA-PATRIOT worse.

3/1/06B: This was the cloture vote on the USA-PATRIOT Act, Conference Report, itself.  This was the last real chance to stop the Act.  It was known that there would not be enough votes to stop the act and so stopping cloture was the most important issue.  Any who voted against the bill who did not vote against cloture will get an F for Fraud after both scores.

3/2/06:  This was the vote on USA-PATRIOT, itself, made worse than the original by changes that removed more freedom from the American people and gave more power to agencies trying to deprive Americans of their Constitutional Rights and making most of the most intrusive provisions permanent.

3/16/06A: This was the vote on the joint resolution to raise the debt ceiling, allowing the government to borrow more and more funds that future generations will never be able to repay.
